History
Thirty years ago, in the spring of 1976, BWRFC became one of the first women's rugby clubs in the New England area. Our founders and members have defined, over the years, a level of tradition, competitiveness, camaraderie, and a love for the game.
BWRFC has competed successfully in the past 30 years as a Division I club; recently, BWRFC has been ranked among the best in the nation.
From 1997 through the spring 0f 2003, Boston Women's Rugby has competed and won at the national level including the National Cup Plate Division Championship in 1993, 1994, and 1996; finished 5th at the National Club Cup level in 1995 and 1997; and has been a competitor in the National Sweet 16's.
Our level of success and competitiveness has come through BWRFC working hard on and off the pitch; raising the level of intensity; as well as competing against some of the best teams in the country. Included are Saranac Lake Can-Am, Ft. Lauderdale Ruggerfest, D.C. Ruggerfest, Philadelphia Pumpkinfest, and the "windy city" women in Chicago.
To gain a better perspective on the club, look at the depth of the team. Over 40 women who come from all over to play for Boston Women's Rugby. Many of the women have been selected and played for the Under-23 Northeast Select Side, as well as the Women's Northeast Select Side.
We as a team partake in a great deal of activities off the pitch included, but not limited to is our Annual Mass Ave Pub Crawl, "Children in the City Charity", summertime barbecues, birthday bashes, supporting Afghanistan Orphanages, caroling at nursing homes during the holidays, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, and most of all hosting the Annual Cape Cod Seven's Tournament in the summer.
Our Annual Cape Cod Seven's Tournament is the largest women's sevens tournament in the country. Fun, enjoyment, and success is what BWRFC strides for attracting teams from all over the country to play a weekend of rugby on the beaches of Cape Cod, MA.
Please join us for some fun, camaraderie, and most of all RUGBY!
